How long before you can drive on new line marking?
For a working site, the real cost of line marking is not the marking, it is the time the floor is closed while it cures. That time ranges from seconds to days depending on the system, so it is worth knowing before you plan the work.
It depends on the system. UV-cured marking (RapidShield) cures in about 30 seconds under the UV lamp, so you can drive on it almost immediately. Epoxy usually takes 24 to 72 hours to reach full cure, with light foot traffic possible sooner. Thermoplastic cools and hardens in roughly 10 to 30 minutes. Solvent or water-based paint takes a few hours to overnight. Cold, damp conditions and thicker coats lengthen every time except UV.

What changes the cure time
- Temperature: most systems cure slower when it is cold; below freezing, epoxy and paint may not cure at all.
- Humidity and damp: moisture on the slab extends drying and can ruin adhesion.
- Coat thickness and number of coats: thicker or multiple coats take longer.
- Air movement: ventilation speeds solvent and water-based drying.
- Floor preparation: a clean, dry, sound surface cures predictably; a contaminated one does not.

A day-long epoxy cure can mean a full shift of lost aisle access, or overnight work at a premium.
